Jackie Danesi wins our “Delco Stories” Slam!
Jackie Danesi won our “Delco Stories” Slam with her tale of angst while taking her S.A.T. exam at Upper Darby High School. Jackie won a prized pint glass and earned a spot in our November Grand Slam, where she will compete with the other winners of the season for the title of Delco’s Best Storyteller. This will be Jackie’s second year in a row to compete in the Grand Slam!
We heard the many facets of Delco throughout the night, including stories from people who grew up in Delco and others from outsiders who have moved to Delco later in life. Maria told of how she ended up traveling from South Philly to a private school on the Main Line, and how her friendship with Delco girls helped her adjust. We heard about a Delco encounter with chickens, and a Delco encounter with a possum. We heard about the predominance of big families in Delco, and how connections with fellow Delco folks can be forged in far away lands.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Story Slam, particularly since we had to postpone the event one night due to icy conditions.
Save the date! Our next Delco Story Slam is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th and the theme is Rise Above! You can order your tickets by clicking HERE.
Jackie’s winning story is posted below. We’ll be uploading all the stories to the Delco Story Slam Youtube channel throughout the day so check back.
