The Delco Story Slam is a monthly event where anyone can get on stage and tell a five minute story based on the theme of the night. Inspired by urban story slams such as the Windy City Story Slam and Philadelphia’s First Person Arts Story Slam, along with The Moth and NPR’s This American Life, a few friends first met in Jim Breslin‘s living room to tell stories in November, 2009.

IMG_2654In January, 2010, the West Chester Story Slam officially began it’s debut season at Ryan’s Pub. Over the first two years, approximately 200 stories were t0ld and our audience outgrew the space. Our third season was held at Victory Brewing Company in 2012. In 2013, West Chester Story Slam returned to the borough, holding events at Side Bar on Gay Street. The events often sell out so order your seats early. In addition to the live events, West Chester Story Slam features videos of selected stories. A monthly podcast is also produced featuring three stories from the live event and is available through iTunes.

On December 5th, 2012, a special “Best of” West Chester Story Slam was held at Newtown Square’s Burlap and Bean. We heard several excellent stories and decided to formalize our slams in Delaware County. The Delco Story Slam officially started in January, 2013, and was held at Burlap and Bean Coffeehouse for two seasons. The 2015 season is being held at Maggie O’Neill’s Irish Pub in Drexel Hill, PA.

In January of 2015, Jim Breslin and Carla Wilson partnered to create Lancaster Story Slam, which is held at Tellus360 in the city of Lancaster.
